While Cashiers is a quaint mountain town in North Carolina, it rests just east of its popular neighbor, Highlands. Neither of these coveted towns is short of charm or things to do, with various activities and events held year-round in the downtown area and beyond. One thing is certain, living in Cashiers affords a community-oriented lifestyle where neighbors take care of each other and celebrate together. Here are a few exciting things you can look forward to when wandering about town.
Village Green
The Village Green is a 13.2-acre park located in the heart of Cashiers. Providing essential green space and preserving Cashiers Village heritage for over 30 years, Village Green is a community gem. The park hosts thousands of visitors and over 80 events each year, making it a pillar in the community. Every Wednesday from April 20th to October 26th, you can pick up baskets of ethically-raised meat and dairy, farm-fresh eggs, jams, pickles, freshly baked goods, and much more at the beloved Green Market.
Held all summer long at the Commons Lawn and Event Hall, Groovin’ on The Green is a free community event featuring singer/songwriters and bands of all genres. As the weather begins to cool down and things get spooky, locals head to the Goblins In the Green & Trunk or Treat Halloween extravaganza to savor delicious culinary treats, play lots of family-friendly games, and much more. These are just a couple of the fun-filled events held at Village Green, so check the events calendar frequently to never miss a good time!
Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau
Providing programs for fostering character and citizenship to hosting events, the Boys & Girls Club of Plateau offers various resources to enrich the lives of Cashiers and Highlands youth. Community members recognized that a club was essential to help teach tomorrow's leaders, so the BGCP was born. Before the opening of BGCP, there were no daily after-school enrichment programs for local children and youth. Families pay a mere $12 per year for individual club membership, giving members access to countless opportunities and programs. Teens participate for free, and families can rest assured their children receive the skills and socialization necessary to become upstanding citizens. The Bright Future Golf & Croquet Tournament is just one of the various events that benefit the club, with many other events held year-round.
