A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Philip spent his childhood summers in Cashiers with his parents and grandparents beginning in 1976. Three generations of his family have made memories in Cashiers and Highlands over the last 100 years.

Philip is a third-generation graduate of Clemson University (1992) with a degree in Political Science. In 1997, he became an insurance agent with Allstate Insurance Company and located his agency in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He has more than 25 years of professional insurance experience and brings that expertise to the Cashiers Valley Real Estate team. He is also securities licensed in South Carolina, serving his customer's financial needs.

In 2002, Philip earned his South Carolina real estate license and formed his own company, Brown Dog Realty, LLC, a boutique real estate firm based in Charleston. Over the years, he has helped many friends and family find their own perfect property, whether it be on the coast or in the mountains.

In 2000, Philip purchased a 1960s era cabin overlooking Lake Glenville, on the same mountain that his family's childhood cabin was located. Over the years, and after several remodeling projects and additions to the cabin, Philip and his partner, Drew English, made the decision to split their time between Charleston and Cashiers in 2018. To paraphrase the quote by John Muir, “The mountains clearly were calling them, they had to go.”

Philip has long been involved in many charities involving historic preservation, including serving for 10 years on The Charles Towne Landing Foundation in Charleston. He has been a consistent supporter of The Human Rights Campaign, Pet Helpers of Charleston and The American Red Cross. In Cashiers, he is a member of The Friends of Lake Glenville, a patron of The Village Green and serves on the board for The Cashiers Historical Society where he and Drew are co-chairs the Patron Party for the Designer Show House.

Philip and Drew English, (who is the master gardener for The High Hampton Dahlia Garden), enjoy antiquing for treasures and have a small antique business called “The Antique Gents.” Philip and Drew love spending time with their Boykin Spaniels, tailgating at Clemson football games, boating on Lake Glenville, traveling to great places and entertaining family and friends at their home.
